Sandile Zungu was born on February 10, 1967, in Umlazi Township, Durban, where he grew up with a passion for entrepreneurship. His father worked in a factory, and his mother was a nurse.
At the time, he was considered a lucky child because both his parents worked professionally, which was a mark of relative fortune in the 1960s.
He completed his matric at Vukuzakhe High School at just 16 years old and went on to attend Hilton College for post-matric studies.
As a young student, Sandile was recognized for his academic prowess. In 1983, he was honored as one of the top participants in the KwaZulu regional finals of the Old Mutual National Science Olympiad.

They had three children together: Mfundo, Lwazi, and Vuyo. Unfortunately, Zodwa passed away in 2016 after a long battle with cancer.
