Dr. Gideon Muriuki: Schools Attended by Kenya’s Highest Paid CEO

Dr. Gideon Muriuki, the Chief Executive Officer of Co-operative Bank of Kenya, holds the enviable title of Kenya’s highest-paid corporate executive. In 2023, he earned an impressive Ksh455.5 million, translating to approximately Ksh1.25 million per day.

Primary Schools

Dr. Gideon Muriuki began his education at Kaigonde Primary School in Tetu, Nyeri County, before transferring to Kiganjo Primary School in Gatundu South Sub-County, Kiambu County. These public schools provided the foundation for his formative education, shaping his early academic journey.

Secondary Education

In 1978, Dr. Gideon Muriuki joined Kagumo High School (KHS), where he resided at Kraph House. Kagumo High has produced several notable alumni, including Dr. Dan Gikonyo, Mutahi Kagwe, Daniel Karaba, Francis Kimemia, and Gibson Kamau Kuria, among other distinguished individuals in Kenya.

Dr. Muriuki completed both his O-level and A-level studies at the institution. As a proud alumnus, he has actively supported various projects in his alma mater, contributing to its growth and legacy.

The boys-only national school is located between Kirichu and Kiganjo townships near Karatina, along the Nyeri-Nanyuki road. 

University of Nairobi (UoN)

After his A-levels, he joined UoN where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1988.

The CEO is a Fellow of the Kenya Institute of Bankers. 

He has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Management in 2011, a Doctorate of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) –DLitt from the African International University and Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letter from the Co-operative University of Kenya in 2022.
