Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa’s academic journey began in Nyandarua County at Ngaindeithia Primary School. This humble institution laid the foundation for a remarkable career, ultimately producing the man at the helm of Kenya’s most profitable company.

In 2023, the Safaricom Foundation partnered with Peter Ndegwa’s alma mater to renovate its outdated classrooms, ablution block, and equipment. During the renovations, the CEO visited the school to reflect on his journey—from a math-loving pupil once encouraged by relatives to become a teacher

“At the time I came to Ngaindeithia Primary School, Nyandarua used to lead, it was always number one. It was not unusual to see ordinary schools producing great grades ”, Peter Ndegwa reminisced with nostalgia.

“From this school, I was one of the first to go to schools like Starehe Boys Centre, which is where I went to high school”, the CEO shared proudly.

Starehe Boys Centre

After completing primary school, Peter Ndegwa joined Starehe Boys Centre, another public institution. Under the tutelage of the founding director, Dr. Geoffrey William Griffin, this boys-only national school played a pivotal role in shaping the man who would later hold powerful positions in the corporate world.
