But how educated is the billionaire?

Rajiv Ruparelia’s Education qualifications

Rajiv received his formative education at the International School of Uganda (ISU) before moving to Kabira International School, which is part of the Ruparelia Group’s ventures.

From there, he spent some time at Dragon School in Oxford and later moved to Haileybury College, which is located about 20 miles north of central London.

His educational accolades also include a degree in Business Administration, majoring in Financial Management, which he obtained from Regent’s University London in 2013.

But how did he make his millions?

Rajiv Ruparelia’s Success Journey

Rajiv was born on January 2, 1990, in Uganda. He is the son of Sudhir Ruparelia, a well-known Ugandan businessman and the founder of the Ruparelia Group, and Jyotsna Ruparelia, also an avid businesswoman.

Rajiv is the only son and the youngest member of the Ruparelia family. He began his entrepreneurial journey at a young age, investing in a nightclub while still in school.

His motto, “Fortune favors the bold, but innovation favors the brave,” has driven his approach to business.

After completing his education, he joined the family business, Ruparelia Group, in 2014.

In 2017, he was appointed Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group. Under his leadership, the company has expanded across various sectors including real estate, finance, hospitality, education, and agriculture.

Rajiv has spearheaded high-profile projects such as Kampala’s Kingdom Mall and Speke Apartments, significantly enhancing the group’s portfolio.

In 2024, he was named among the top 100 young leaders in Africa by the Choiseul Institute (#Choiseul100Africa), marking him as the only Ugandan on this prestigious list.

Rajiv Ruparelia’s Family

Rajiv has two sisters, Meera Ruparelia and Sheena Ruparelia.

Meera is married to Ravi Kotecha and serves as the Head of Developments at Meera Investments, managing over 400 properties.

Sheena is married to Jay Sakaria and holds a position as a Director within the Ruparelia Group. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees for the Ruparelia Foundation.

Rajiv is married to Naiya Khagram Ruparelia, whom he wed in 2017.

Naiya holds a BA in Journalism from City University, London, and has held various roles in business development and marketing prior to her marriage.

Together, Rajiv and Naiya have one daughter.

Rajiv Ruparelia’s Scandals

Despite his success, Rajiv Ruparelia has not been fortunate enough to evade the sneaky arm of controversy.

In 2018, he was implicated in spreading “malicious falsehoods” against DFCU Bank.

After Crane Bank, where Rajiv was a director, was taken over by DFCU Bank, Rajiv allegedly circulated false information claiming that DFCU was experiencing a liquidity problem.

This led to a legal battle, and the Kampala High Court issued a permanent injunction prohibiting Rajiv from further defaming DFCU Bank.

That same year, he faced allegations of dumping soil into Lake Victoria during the construction of Speke Resort Munyonyo.

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) ordered the removal of the soil and halted construction until the issue was resolved.
