Jane Karuku has been serving as the Group Managing Director and CEO of East African Breweries Limited (EABL) since January 1, 2021.
She previously held the position of Managing Director at Kenya Breweries Limited from 2015 to 2020.
With over 25 years of experience in fast-moving consumer goods and non-profit sectors, Karuku has also led organizations like Cadbury East and Central Africa and Telkom Kenya.
She holds a BSc in Food Science from the University of Nairobi and an MBA in Marketing from the National University of California.
Education
Karuku holds a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology from the University of Nairobi, which she completed in 1985.
She later earned a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from the National University (California) in 1992.

Early career
Karuku began her professional journey at Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) shortly after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology in 1985.
Initially, she joined KCC as a management trainee, where she gained foundational experience in the dairy industry. S
Karuku quickly advanced to the role of Brand Manager, responsible for developing and managing product lines, which honed her marketing skills.
After taking time off to raise her family, she returned to KCC as Operations Manager, focusing on improving operational efficiencies and product quality.
In 2002, Karuku transitioned to Cadbury Schweppes as the Managing Director for East and Central Africa.
During her tenure, she played a crucial role in expanding Cadbury’s market presence in the region.
Later career
Following her successful stint at Cadbury, Karuku moved to Telkom Kenya, where she served as Deputy CEO.
In this role, she was involved in strategic planning and operational management during a critical period of transformation for the telecommunications company.
After her time at Telkom Kenya, Karuku took on a leadership role at the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), an organization dedicated to improving agricultural productivity and food security across Africa.
Her work at AGRA emphasized sustainable agricultural practices and economic development.
In 2015, Karuku was appointed Managing Director of Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), a subsidiary of East African Breweries Limited (EABL).
Under her leadership, KBL focused on innovation in product development and sustainability initiatives.
She championed the introduction of new brands and improved operational efficiencies, contributing to the company’s growth.
In January 2021, Karuku became the Group Managing Director and CEO of East African Breweries Limited.
In this capacity, she oversees operations across multiple countries in East Africa.
Awards and recognitions
Karuku has received several prestigious awards and recognitions throughout her career, highlighting her significant contributions to business and society.
In 2020, she was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (MGH), acknowledging her impactful leadership and service to the nation.
The following year, in 2021, Karuku was recognized by Africa.com as one of the 50 most outstanding African women corporate leaders, celebrating her role in managing large and complex businesses across the continent.
Additionally, she has been honored with the Uzalendo Award for her commitment to social and economic development in Kenya.
