Security firm G4S has announced its intention to terminate the employment of four hundred staff members within the upcoming six months.
In a letter dated November 4, 2024, the company submitted a redundancy notice to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
Helgah Kimanani, the Human Resources Director at G4S, indicated that this decision was prompted by a decline in business operations in Kenya.
The HR Director stated that the correspondence acts as a redundancy notice in accordance with Section 40 (1) of the Employment Act, 2007.
“Due to the ongoing reduction in business trading occasioned by the effects of the harsh economic challenges that have occasioned to reduction in revenue and high costs of running our business, we regret to advise the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the organization’s intentions to declare several positions redundant,” the letter read.
G4S announced that the notice became effective on November 4, 2024.
The company indicated that the process will occur between November 4 and April 2025, impacting employees across different regions of the country.
“The redundancy exercise is likely to affect approximately four hundred (400) employees based in various locations in Kenya in both categories of management and unionsable cadres between 04 November 2024 and April 2025,” the letter further read.
Kimanani stated that G4S Kenya Limited is entirely dedicated to the Kenyan market.
The Human Resources representative emphasized that the company is fully intent on executing strategies that will ensure job security for its employees while maintaining strong business performance.
“We wish to assure the Ministry that we shall adhere to all the minimum legal requirements stipulated for this kind of action,” the letter concluded.
