Muhoho Kenyatta is a prominent businessman and the younger brother of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He has played significant roles in various businesses, notably as Executive Chairman of Brookside Dairy, Kenya’s leading dairy supplier.
Recently, Muhoho has emerged in political discussions, potentially being appointed to President Ruto’s Cabinet and considered as a candidate for Deputy President in 2027.
Education
Muhoho attended St. Mary’s School in Nairobi before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics from Williams College in Massachusetts, USA, in 1985.
His academic background has supported his extensive career in business, particularly in the dairy industry through Brookside Dairies, which he co-founded.
Entrepreneurial career
Kenyatta co-founded Brookside Dairy in 1993 alongside Uhuru and a group of investors.
Under their leadership, Brookside has grown to become the largest dairy producer in East and Central Africa, producing a wide range of dairy products, including milk, yogurt, cheese, and butter.
To expand its market share and product offerings, Brookside has acquired several other dairy brands, such as Ilara, known for its high-quality milk products, and Delamere, which caters to the upscale market.
The company has invested in modern technology and sustainable farming practices to improve production efficiency and product quality.
In addition to his work at Brookside, Muhoho is involved with NCBA Bank, one of Kenya’s largest financial institutions.
The bank was formed through a merger between NIC Group and Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA), where he has been influential in strategic decision-making.
He is also associated with the Heritage Group, which manages several hotels and tourism-related businesses that contribute to Kenya’s hospitality sector by promoting tourism and providing employment opportunities.
Political influence
Kenyatta has emerged as a significant figure in Kenya’s political landscape, particularly in the context of President William Ruto’s administration.
Recently, discussions have indicated that he may be appointed to a Cabinet position, potentially positioning him as Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 elections.
This strategy aims to consolidate support within the influential Kikuyu community and counter the rising influence of other political figures, such as impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Known for his discreet yet impactful role during his brother Uhuru’s presidency, Muhoho has been involved in key political maneuvers, including the formation of The National Alliance (TNA) party and legal strategies during Uhuru’s International Criminal Court challenges.
His ability to navigate complex political dynamics is evident in his involvement in the landmark handshake between Uhuru and Raila Odinga, which aimed to foster unity after a divisive election cycle.
