Professor Dankit Nassiuma has been appointed as the Chancellor of Moi University, officially installed on December 19, 2024, during the university’s 46th graduation ceremony.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi, and both a Master’s and PhD in Statistics from the University of Manitoba, Canada.

Nassiuma has previously served as Vice Chancellor at Africa International University and Kabarak University, contributing significantly to academic leadership and research in statistics.

Education background

Nassiuma earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi.

He furthered his studies at the University of Manitoba, where he obtained both a Master of Science and a PhD in Statistics.

Early career

Nassiuma began his academic journey as a lecturer, focusing on the fields of mathematics and statistics.

He later took on the role of Director of the Postgraduate School at Egerton University, where he was responsible for overseeing postgraduate programs.

In this capacity, Nassiuma ensured academic standards were met and facilitated research initiatives, significantly enhancing the quality and reputation of postgraduate education at the university.

From 2007 to 2012, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Kabarak University.

In this leadership position, he played a crucial role in establishing the university’s academic framework and infrastructure.

Nassiuma’s efforts contributed to the growth of Kabarak University, expanding its programs and increasing enrollment, which helped position the institution as a notable player in higher education.

Later career

In 2013, Nassiuma became Vice Chancellor at Africa International University, a role he held until 2023.

During his tenure, he focused on strategic development, enhancing academic programs, and fostering research initiatives.

Nassiuma emphasized community engagement and established partnerships with other institutions to promote educational excellence.

Under his leadership, the university expanded its offerings and improved its standing within the academic community, making significant strides in areas such as student support services and faculty development.

In July 2024, Nassiuma was appointed Chancellor of Moi University.

In this new role, he aims to enhance student success by improving academic performance and support systems for students.

“To the entire Moi University community, I acknowledge the work you have done to build and sustain this institution. This inauguration marks a new chapter, not just for me, but for our beloved university, which is in desperate need of transformation, to get its former glory back,” he said in his maiden speech.

Nassiuma is also committed to faculty development, encouraging professional growth among faculty members to foster a more dynamic learning environment.
