In a significant move to strengthen its foothold in Africa’s rapidly expanding educational sector, the ADvTECH Group has successfully acquired a 100% interest in Flipper International School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for USD 7.5 million (roughly 900 million birr).

This acquisition underscores ADvTECH’s commitment to becoming a leading provider of private education across the African continent.

With the addition of Flipper International School, ADvTECH now expands its international portfolio by incorporating five new schools and approximately 3,500 students in one of the fastest-growing cities in Africa.

The deal, which was fully funded by ADvTECH, reflects the group’s strategic vision to expand and enhance its educational offerings.

“We are delighted to welcome Flipper International School to the ADvTECH Group as we expand our presence across Africa and further cement our status as leaders in teaching and learning on the continent,” AFvTECH CEO Geoff Whyte said.

Founded in 1998 by Menna Selamu and Serkaddis Seifu, Flipper International School has established a reputation for academic excellence.

In 2018, the school’s founders sold an 85% stake to Tana Africa Capital and the Saham Group, two investors who brought crucial funding to support advancements in technology, academics, governance, and human resources.

This investment played a pivotal role in the school’s growth over the past five years.

Flipper International School operates five campuses across the Beklobet and Summit areas of Addis Ababa, offering a capacity for over 3,500 students.

As Ethiopia continues to experience rapid urbanization, the demand for quality private education has risen, partly driven by limitations within the public school system.

Whyte also emphasized ADvTECH’s unique role in shaping the future of education in Africa.

“Flipper International School has always been a beacon of academic excellence in the region. We look forward to applying our resources and expertise to this school and taking it to even greater heights in the years to come,” he added.

This acquisition marks another important step for ADvTECH in its mission to expand educational access and quality across Africa, and further solidifies its position as a leader in private education.
