Martin attended PK Primary and Secondary School, where he studied up to Form 3 before personal issues forced him to drop out.

Following this, he faced uncertainty about his future and moved to Kiambu, where he became involved in music through local church activities.

His breakthrough came in 2008 with the release of his debut album, Ngai niwenjire Githima.

Although the album received limited radio play initially, it marked the beginning of his professional music career and established him as a rising artist within the Kikuyu gospel music scene.

Over the years, Martin released several more albums that solidified his reputation, including Wira Mwega and Gwaku Ndikoima.

Notable tracks like “Nituririkanitwo” became hits, showcasing his ability to blend traditional Kikuyu sounds with contemporary gospel music.

Despite his growing popularity, Martin faced ongoing financial struggles.

The music industry can be unpredictable, and many artists find it challenging to sustain themselves solely through their art.

However, he remained committed to his craft and continued to produce music that resonated with his audience.

Today, Martin is regarded as one of the prominent figures in Kikuyu gospel music.

Personal life

Martin is engaged to Bitty Wamaitha.

Their relationship was highlighted during Martin’s dowry ceremony held on July 29, 2023, in Kiambu County, which was attended by notable figures from the Kikuyu gospel music community.

During the event, Uhuru sent gifts and a message of goodwill to the couple, recognizing Martin as a close friend.

“I am a messenger of former president Uhuru. He told me to come here on his behalf. He told me Martin wa Janet is his close friend and that he loves your Kigoco music and he is happy.

“He told me to pass my congratulations. He told me that may God bless your marriage, and that may you prosper. all the best God bless you. I have your goats here from him,” said Kamau Migwi.
