1. Gideon Muriuki
Gideon Maina Muriuki, born on September 1, 1964, in Nyeri County, is the Group Managing Director and CEO of the Co-operative Bank of Kenya.
He began his education at Kiganjo Primary School in Nyeri County before advancing to Kagumo High School in 1978 for his secondary education.
Muriuki then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at the University of Nairobi.
In 2011, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in Business Management by the Kenya Institute of Bankers.
2. Joshua Oigara
Joshua Nyamweya Oigara, born in 1975 in Kisii, is a renowned businessman and accountant currently serving as the CEO of Stanbic Bank Kenya and South Sudan.
He started his education at Eronge Adventist Boarding Primary School.
After completing secondary education, Oigara joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in accounting, and graduated in 1997.
He also earned his accounting certification at Strathmore University School of Accountancy.
Later, he completed a Master’s in Business Administration at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia.
Oigara has attended several postgraduate management courses at renowned institutions such as INSEAD in the USA, the International Institute for Management (IMD Business School) in Switzerland, and the London Business School, among others.
3. James Mwangi
James Mwangi, born in 1962 in Murang’a County, is the Group CEO of Equity Group Holdings.
His educational journey began at Nyagatugu Primary School in Kangema Village, followed by Ichagaki Secondary School on a government scholarship.
He later attended Kagumo High School, where he studied Economics, English Literature, and Geography.
After completing his secondary education, Mwangi joined the University of Nairobi, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
He subsequently passed the Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPAK) examinations.
Mwangi also graduated from the Advanced Management Program at the ISE Business School in Barcelona, Spain.
He holds five honorary doctorate degrees, including a Doctor of Business Administration from Kenya Methodist University (KEMU), a Doctor of Humane Letters from Kenyatta University, a Doctor of Entrepreneurship from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), a Doctor of Business Management (Honoris Causa) from Meru University, and a Doctorate of Letters from Africa Nazarene University (ANU).
4. John Gachora
John Gachora, born in 1968 in Gatamaiyu, is the Group Managing Director and CEO of NCBA Group.
He attended Gatamaiyu Primary School before joining the prestigious Alliance Boys High School for his secondary education.
Gachora then went on to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
In 2002, he received an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business.
5. James Mworia
James Mworia Mwirigi, born in 1978, is a prominent Kenyan lawyer and business executive, serving as the Managing Director and CEO of Centum Investment Company since 2008.
He attended Alliance High School before enrolling at the University of Nairobi and Strathmore University, where he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in law.
Mworia is a certified public accountant and a chartered financial analyst. In 2016, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree by Machakos University.
6. Jeremy Awori
Jeremy Awori, born around 1971, is the Group CEO of Ecobank Transnational, having assumed the position on March 1, 2023.
He attended St. Mary’s School, Nairobi, for both his elementary and secondary education.
In 1989, Awori was admitted to the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1991.
He then went on to McGill University in Canada, where he earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration, majoring in Finance and International Business.
7. Peter Ndegwa
Peter Ndegwa, born in 1969, is the Chief Executive Officer of Safaricom PLC, having assumed the role on April 1, 2020.
He attended the prestigious Starehe Boys Centre, where he obtained his high school diploma.
Ndegwa later joined the University of Nairobi, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.
He then pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the London School of Business. Ndegwa is also a certified Public Accountant.
