Pay of Raila’s Sister Dr. Wenwa Akinyi After Ruto’s Appointment as KEMFRI Chairperson

Kenya President William Ruto has appointed Dr. Wenwa Akinyi, sister of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, as the Chairperson of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KEMFRI) Board for a period of three years.

The Gazette Notice of her appointment read,

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with Section 16 (2) and the Fourth Schedule of the Science, Technology and Innovation Act, 2013, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Dr. Wenwa Akinyi Oranga to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute” 

 What will be the pay of Dr. Wenwa Akinyi?

  • Parastatal Board Chairperson pay and benefits: Following an 87 percent increase in 2018, chairpersons now earn between KSh100,000 ($775) and KSh150,000 ($1,162) per month, up from a flat rate of KSh80,000 ($620). 
  • Sitting Allowance: KSh25,000 ($193).
  • Accommodation Allowance: KSh18,200 ($141).
  • Other Allowances:
    • KSh5,000 for airtime.
    • KSh2,000 per day for lunch when on official duty.
    • Personal accident cover
    • Medical expenses.
